Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, is about to complete a 4,400-mile journey across the oceans with his $500 million superyacht and is set to arrive in the United States for the first time today.

It’s the Koru of centibillionaire Jeff Bezos, the world’s largest sailing yacht that turns out to be the Houdini of the high seas. Billionaires Bezos and Lauren Sanchez prefer to keep their yacht, Koru, away from the limelight and avoid being tracked.

The world’s largest sailing yacht, the 416-foot Koru, recently left Gibraltar bound for a vaguely listed destination as “The Americas” on the Marine Traffic website, a detail that has remained unchanged for several weeks.

According to the YouTube channel eSysman SuperYachts, this remarkable Oceanco ship is actually heading to Port Everglades in Florida, with an expected arrival today at 10:00 PM [local time] before heading to the Bahamas.

According to publicly available AIS data, Marine Traffic indicates that the Koru Yacht is currently near the Bahamas and heading for Fort Lauderdale. The yacht’s shadow ship, the $75 million Abeona, is already in Port Everglades, according to Vessel Finder. However, Marine Traffic shows that Abeona is in La Ciotat, France, and is out of reach.

This discrepancy suggests that Bezos and Sanchez do not wish for the exact location of Koru to be publicly known, especially after the significant attention their Mediterranean journey attracted.

The Amazon founder’s $500 million yacht has also drawn criticism from climate advocates who question the claim that the world’s largest sailing yacht is environmentally friendly. Counting on 2 MTU engines for propulsion when its giant sails are not in use, the Koru emits 7,150 tons of CO2 annually.

In recent months, the yacht has traveled from the Balearic Islands to Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Capri, Sardinia, Portofino, and the Baltic region, and now apparently is on its way to the United States for the first time. According to port data, Koru will head to the Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale. Perhaps Jeff Bezos and his beloved Lauren will ring in the new year with their friends on the Koru in the bright blue waters of the Caribbean.
