Louis Vuitton has presented a new and impressive pocket watch that combines haute horlogerie, art, and traditional enameling techniques.
The Louis Vuitton piece, called Escale au Mont Fuji, features on its dial a detailed scene inspired by the Japanese landscape, with Mount Fuji in the background and several cultural elements represented in miniature.
According to the specialized website Luxurylaunches, the watch was created by La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, the brand’s haute horlogerie workshop in Geneva, and highlights the level of craftsmanship and technical complexity the maison has developed in recent years.
A Japanese landscape on the dial
According to Luxurylaunches, the dial functions as a true mechanical work of art. The scene depicts a boat sailing on a river in front of Mount Fuji, surrounded by cherry blossoms — one of Japan’s most traditional symbols.
On the boat appears the figure of Ebisu, a Japanese deity associated with prosperity and good fortune. He steers the vessel while carrying classic Louis Vuitton trunks, creating a visual connection between Japanese culture and the brand’s universe.
The scene comes to life thanks to a mechanical automaton system. When activated, the mechanism causes some elements of the scene to move, creating an animated effect on the dial.
Traditional enameling techniques
According to Luxurylaunches, creating the dial required about 300 hours of artisanal work.
The craftsmen used several traditional enameling techniques, including Grand Feu, champlevé, and miniature enameling, while also working with 33 different enamel colors to reproduce the tones of the sky, water, and landscape.
This multi-layered process allows for depth and extremely precise details in the depicted scene.
Complex mechanical movement
The watch also stands out for its internal engineering.
According to Luxurylaunches, the model uses the manual-winding caliber LFT AU14.03, composed of 561 components and 68 jewels.
The movement includes three important haute horlogerie complications:
- Tourbillon, which helps improve the watch’s accuracy
- Minute repeater, a mechanism that chimes the hours and minutes
- Mechanical automatons responsible for animating the scene on the dial
The mechanism also offers an eight-day power reserve, allowing the watch to continue running for more than a week after being fully wound.
White gold case and colored sapphires
According to Luxurylaunches, the watch features a 50-millimeter white gold case.
The bezel is decorated with 60 baguette-cut sapphires totaling about 3.74 carats, arranged in a color gradient that echoes the tones of the sky depicted on the dial.
Another interesting detail is that the hour indication was placed on the back of the watch, allowing the main dial to remain entirely dedicated to the artistic scene.
A combination of art and watchmaking
As Luxurylaunches highlights, the Escale au Mont Fuji exemplifies Louis Vuitton’s approach to haute horlogerie: combining complex engineering, traditional artistic techniques, and detailed visual storytelling in a single creation.
The result is a watch that goes beyond the function of telling time and approaches a true piece of mechanical art.
